Office Trap is a story-based mystery game set in a 90s Japanese office aesthetic with charming characters and cute hand-drawn mixed 2D and 3D visuals. Through insight and investigation, your job is to gather clues and evidence and connect the dots to ascertain the perpetrator. Branching dialogue and choices means that every enquiry counts. This narrative-focused game allows for multiple playthroughs - just in case you might've ousted the wrong people.

Development

Point-and-click arrow navigation

The game uses point-and-click navigation inspired by Google Maps arrow navigation.
Click on the arrow UI to move and explore the environment. We used  Cinemachine  for smooth transitions between cameras.

Developing Characters

Inspired by the Aggretsuko series on Netflix I created 7 main character designs.
We then used the concept art to create individual 2D sprites in various poses and expression for in game animation and cutscenes.

Branching Narrative

I created a custom modulad branching dialogue system that allows for subtitle and audio/sfx integration as well as branching narrative choices.

Collecting Clues through Environment and Dialogue Investigations - Investigation Manager

  • Created and implemented a complex investigation manager, tracking all player actions and dialogue choices.
  • Players collect clues through dialogue options and investigating items.
  • Clues appear on an archive board and build character profiles  with countless combinations per playthrough
  • They inform the player's major decision at the end, encouraging replayability.
